If you're reading this, chances are that you are a patron that has enjoyed our templates for many weeks/months/years(!) 😄 and are wondering how to enjoy the latest updates we have to offer.

As a benefit of our innovation with the Build-Your-Own-System and Backend, migration is relatively simple and pain free. Simply follow the instructions below that pertain to your situation, and you'll be all set!

Let's Start!

  1. Duplicate the latest version to your workspace

  2. Duplicate your old package to keep a backup

Depending on how you've been using the system, you have two options.

  • If you want a hassle free update experience and get all the latest improvements, migrate your data to the latest version of the system.

  • If you have made heavy customization to the properties and views of their databases, patch your existing system.

We're aware that database management can be difficult to understand. Thus, we're working on a short video that can take you through the steps below with ease. Stay tuned!

Migrate Your Data

  1. Write down which databases have data you wish to copy over.

  2. Navigate to the backend of your existing system and switch to the table view (and make sure no filters are applied) for the database you would like to migrate data from.

  3. Append the text "Old" to easily differentiate between old and new databases.

  1. In a new window, navigate to the backend of your new system and switch to the table view (and make sure no filters are applied) for the database you would like to migrate data from.

  2. Append the text "New" to easily differentiate between old and new databases.

  3. Clear demo data (if any) by selecting a row (click the 6 dots that show up when hovering on the left side of the row). Then, press CTRL / CMD + A on your keyboard to select all rows.

  4. Then, press delete on your keyboard.

  1. Go back to your old database, and then follow step 3 to select all the rows.

  2. Click Right-Click, Move To → (New) ________

Please note that while all your internal relations will be kept intact, however relations that point to another table will not be copied over until you also migrate over the data from the relational database.

Patch Your Existing System

  1. Check out the update notes and explore what has been changed.

  2. Open two Notion windows and open the latest version

  3. Navigate to the build-you-own-system and the backend

  4. Open up the templates you want to copy.

If they are new templates, follow the following steps:

  1. Find the templates in the build-your-own-system and backend.

  2. Right-Click, Move To → Build-Your-Own-System and Backend respectively

  3. Fix relations to point to the right tables in your old workspace.

  4. Fix rollups to point to the right properties (compare with the original)

If they are enhancements, follow the following steps:

  1. For new properties, filters, or sorts, rebuild the changes in your own version. This is great for giving you the opportunity to learn from what has been improved and integrate it in your own way.

Note: A 'lazy' way is to first make sure every single property is named the same between the old and new versions, and then copying every formula over. Doing it this way can ensure you have the latest updates within just a few minutes, but you may not understand how the changes work. It's completely up to you though!
