How can we help? 👋

How Do I Integrate The Latest Updates Into My Existing System

I like the recent updates, but I want to bring it into my own system.

If you have made significant customization to your system, you can integrate the new changes to your existing system to benefit from the latest updates.

If you follow these steps, you will be using your existing system. Before you start, we recommend you find out what kind of user you are so you are sure that these steps are right for you. To be certain, you should only opt to integrate updates if you have done major customization to your systems, and/or enjoy getting to know your system more intimately by building improvements yourself. Otherwise, you can consider migrating data into the latest version of the system.

You’ll have a lot of control over which improvements you want to integrate, so the time to update is unpredictable. Schedule a few pomodoros of time and have some fun!

Understand The Updates

Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is essentially your own.

First, read the latest update notes. Look for the current version, open it up and you'll notice that we have 3 types of upgrades: New Templates, Enhancements, and Bug Fixes. If you find something that interests you, follow the following steps to introduce the change into your system.

Watch the update notes livestream if you want a guided walkthrough of the major changes and see us explain in further details why each change was made.

Integrating The Component

Save time by taking the component as is.

We’ve structured our systems to have a very clear and consistent way to integrate new components directly. This method is useful when there are a lot of changes involving a specific component.

Database and Tutorial Updates

  1. Duplicate the new system into your workspace
  1. Go to Components in the new system
    1. Highlight the relevant component(s) and click the 6 dots, then Move To.

  1. Select the Components of your current system.
  1. Then, go to Tutorials and move the relevant tutorials into your current system

💡
You may also need to manually change relations to point back to components inside your current system (since they might be connected to the new system instead).

Dashboard Updates

  1. Duplicate the new system into your workspace
  1. Go to Dashboards and identify the relevant dashboard(s)
    1. Highlight the relevant dashboards(s) and click the 6 dots, then Move To.

  1. Select the Dashboards of your current system.
  1. Then, navigate to the dashboard and replace all the relevant views to ones from your current system by browsing the Synced Blocks found in the relevant Components

Manually Upgrading Your Component

Have full control over the upgrade process and understand your system deeply.

We try our best to document why the improvement was made, what does it accomplish, and how it works so you can make an informed decision. Simply follow the instructions inside the update notes to apply the change to your own system.
